Abortion Defenders: Digital Defenders January Session

It’s no secret that the Internet, and in particular, social media, is a battleground for politics. This is a place where many are being exposed to both misinformation and political ideas for the first time. Peer to peer interactions on social media, at scale, can fundamentally change the conversation. Since 2019, Digital Defenders has been training every day activists on identifying disinformation and dangerous myths online, from the election to COVID-19 to climate denial.

On January 25th, we'll be hosting a 2-hour training from 6-8 pm EST to combat disinformation online about abortion access. We'll learn the difference between misinformation and disinformation on social media, review common, harmful myths about abortion and get some hands on practice and respond in real time.

Becoming a Digital Defender requires some comfort navigating social media and graphics, openness to learning and/or comfort using Slack and a commitment to become an active part of our community moving forward.

What will be included in the training?

  • Understanding the digital landscape & the inner workings of the spread of disinformation on the topic of abortion
  • How to effectively counter disinformation
  • Practicing responding to disinformation in real time
